What To Expect

01.
Schedule Phone Consult

The first step is to schedule a free, 15-minute phone consultation before scheduling your first therapy session. This will give you and your therapist the chance to get to know each other, talk about what you’re looking for, and to answer any questions you may have.

02.
Schedule Intake Session

If you both decide you’re a good fit, we will schedule your 50-minute intake appointment. In this session, you and your therapist will talk more in-depth about your goals for therapy and chart a path forward together. This will also be an opportunity for your therapist to learn more about your personality, life experiences, identities, and values.

For clients 17 and under, the intake session will be for parents/guardians only so just the adults have a chance to talk openly.

03.
Ongoing Therapy Sessions

For new clients, we recommend meeting weekly for at least the first 4 weeks so we can build a solid working relationship. After that, we can decide together how often to meet to address your therapy goals and maintain progress.

For clients 17 and under, parent sessions are scheduled as needed.

 Frequently Asked Questions

Tolleson C&C Office
  • No, we are not in-network with any insurance company at this time. Like most specialty providers, we do not participate in insurance plans in order to provide maximum privacy, confidentiality, and flexibility to clients. We can, however, accept HSA/FSA cards for payment and provide superbills for clients to submit towards any out-of-network benefits they may have.

  • Depending on your insurance plan, you may be able to receive a partial reimbursement of the session cost. We can provide monthly invoices, called superbills, for you to then submit to your insurance company towards your OON deductible. You can either call the number on the back of your insurance card or use a paid service, such as Mentaya or Reimbursify, to determine your specific plan’s benefits.

  • Yes, each therapist reserves a limited number of sliding scale spots in their schedule for clients experiencing financial distress. If these spots are full and we are unable to offer you a reduced fee, we’d be happy to provide referrals for other clinicians in the area. If you’re hoping to find an in-network provider, Psychology Today and Therapy Den are great resources. You can also check out Open Path Collective if you’re looking for therapists who have reduced-rate spots available.

  • No, Licensed Professional Counselors can only provide services in the states they are licensed. We are only licensed to work with residents of Georgia. However, licensure portability among most states is expected to go into effect in late 2024 or early 2025.

  • Before scheduling your first therapy session, we offer a free 15-minute phone call so we can talk a bit more about what you’re looking for and how we may be able to help. This will also give us the chance to get to know each other and for you to ask any questions you may have.

  • Our therapists meet with most clients on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. For new clients, we recommend weekly sessions for at least the first 4 weeks so we can build a strong working relationship. Some clients decide to gradually space out sessions as their therapy goals are met. Whereas other clients prefer to continue meeting on a regular basis to maintain progress, receive ongoing support, and to have a safe place to process their thoughts and feelings.

  • Master’s Level Counselors are those who have graduated from their Master’s program and are currently working on completing the state requirements to get provisionally licensed. These therapists hold at least two degrees (bachelor’s and master’s) and have completed the 700 required hours of internship. They continue working under direction and supervision while preparing for required board exams, including the National Counselor Examination (NCE).

Most of the Master’s Counselors on staff with TCC are on the path to becoming Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT). They may have prior experience in a counseling-related profession (i.e., school counseling) and frequently have at least one area they specialize in.

  • Our interns are currently in the second year of their Master's program in Counseling. At this stage, they have completed the majority of their graduate coursework and are focused on gaining the hours required for their internship. Typically, they have already completed their practicum at another counseling center and come to us with many years of prior experience in the helping profession. Interns meet with Dr. Ashley Tolleson as well as their faculty supervisor for weekly supervision while also preparing for the national board exam.

TCC enters into a contract with their university and offers them a clinical site to gain experience while also offering clinical supervision at no cost to the student or the university. In exchange, TCC is able to set a lower rate for those counseling sessions.
